Lexus Question

Ok, I'm interested in SC400s. I know the first few years of production the powertrain was 4L non vvti (250 hp) with 4 speed auto. Now, was the 96 or 97 model year receive the updated vvti motor and 5speed auto tranny from the gs400?

I tried to search but can't find any info on 96 or 97 model years.

I have a 92 sc400, but don't know the answer to your question. Try searching www.clublexus.com or www.lexusownersclub.com or www.intellexusl.net These are really useful websites for lexus owners or soon to be owners.

Are you looking into modding the engine for more power or are you trying to get more stock power and keep it that way. Because there is alot more you can do with the sc300 in terms of performance. If you want to keep the engine stock and just upgrade the wheels, suspension, brakes, etc go for the 400.

The year the SC400 got the updated 1UZ-FE motor with the VVTi was 1998. Its good for 290 hp and 300 ft/lb of toque. The 92-97 models have 260hp and 270tq. In 1997 they had a minor refresh of tailights and interior. If you ever have Lexus questions, www.clublexus.com is definetely a good place, humongous membership base.

i'm in the market for a sc guys, what model should i get ? like you guys said the 300 is good for performance upgrades. is that because of the aftermarket support or ??

i've seen a few sc's with high mileage and in great shape (body/interior wise) for just 5g. i was thinking of just getting one cheap in great shape except for the high miles and then just dropping a motor in. what do you guys say ?
