LexusES250 Engine Code Diagnosis

Hello all,

I was driving my mother in-law home today, and my check engine light came on. I have a 1990 Lexus ES250 with the 2.5L V-6.
It came on one time before, but I knew exactly what was wrong because it was misfiring due to fouled plugs. I replaced them, and left the positive terminal off for an hour and that cleared the code, I hadn't seen the CE light for a few months. But this one has left me wondering. I did notice to diagnosis plugs. One that looks like a pre-OBDII plug, and also another under the hood. Do I have the OD0 or the OBDI? Do any of you guys have code books? I know that this plug in isn't used today, and it will be hard to find a shop other than the dealer ( Which I really don't want to have to go to ) that has this type of plug in. My gas milage stinks, and it seems like the car is underpowered. Mind you she still hussles, but it just seems like she doesn't have it all.

Where can I find a scan tool? Lemme ask another question. My cat is shot I would have to guess. It's whistling, and stinks like rotten eggs. Could that be it? If it gets too hot will that set off the light? I hate my loud " Honda like " exhaust but just don't have the income to have it replaced. Anyways thankyou in advance.

Bart

Hello,
Quote.
...3) To retrieve codes, turn ignition on. DO NOT start engine.
Using a jumper wire, connect terminals E1 and TE1 together either on
DLC1 (take a look http://www.alflash.narod.ru/dtctoyota.htm - alflash:-). Count number of flashes from Malfunction
Indicator Light (MIL). Data Link Connector No. 1 (DLC1) is located in engine compartment.
4) If MIL flashes 2 times every second, system is functioning
properly. This is known as a normal condition. If a diagnostic code is displayed, first group of flashes will indicate first digit of a 2-digit diagnostic code. After a 1.5 second delay, second group of flashes will indicate second digit of diagnostic code.
5) If more than one code is stored, a 2.5 second delay will occur between diagnostic codes. After all diagnostic codes have been displayed, a 4.5 second delay will occur and then codes will be repeated until jumper wire connecting terminals E1 and TE1 is disconnected. Diagnostic codes will display from smallest to largest number...
HTH,

Do you have diagrams of the pins you speak of? Or are they marked under the diagnosis box under the hood?
And also jumper wire what do you mean by that?

p.s.
I read "MIL-code" on Toyota/Lexus by using this "device" on DLC No.1 or DLC No.2

got the codes

Hello all,

So I get the codes. A lot easier than I thought it would be. I only got one code. 25- Air/Fuel ratio lean Malfunction. The car is not running hotter than it normally would signifying a lean condition, yet it does sputter a little bit when first idleing. It must be my o2 sensor. How many does my car have and how do I know which one it is? I have the 2.5 v-6 and the month of production is 8/89 I think that is helpful too.

Thankyou,

Bart
