Question LS400 Trip Odometer Noise

My 1990 Lexus LS400 has developed a clicking sound in the mechanical trip odometer. It did not use to make this noise when the car was newer. My mechanic says learn to live with it as it can not be repaired. I think it just needs special lubricant, but may not be cost effective to tear things appart to get to the odometer. Any ideas or comments?

Are you sure it's coming from your odometer? Sometimes sounds can be tricky and can be coming from somewhere else. It could be something as simple as a lose screw or something.

I am sure that the noise in the instrument cluster is related the the speedometer or odometer because it is definitely related to the speed that I am driving. It goes "click, click, click" slower or faster depending on the vehicle speed.
