Purchased a used ES250 with 152K mileage back a few months ago. Other than new tires, oil change and transmission checkout all is stock. The car is a one owner that was meticulously maintained.
Problem: today the car started missing real bad and then finally dies - one block from home! Towed her home and started looking/poking around but didn't find anything obvious. Battery is strong - reads 13.5 VDC - and it will crank but will not start. I checked the fuses (visual and with a VOM) and they are all good. It's raining and pretty gloomy so didn't crawl around too much.
Question: Is there an OBD trick to read the codes through the dash like some other vehicles? (I had several GM products that you could turn the key to the "on" position three times and then the code would flash on the dashboard.)
in the gen 3 camry/gen1 ES 300's, which were Toyota-OBD) you open the diagnostic port in the hood and short terminals TE1 and E1.
Turn the key to ON position and the Check Engine light will flash the code.

Sorry to hear your car is having problems. Just remember your engine is a 2VZFE it's the same V6 in the gen2 Camry. So when you search for information on your car the Camry guys might have a good idea of whats going on.

OKBill if he hasn't faxed the codes to you, there are a millino people here that will let you know what's wrong if you post them.
The CEL flashes in timed intervials.
Code 32 would be
Flash Flash Flash (blank) Flash Flash (blank) and repeate until cleared/fixed. You can't confuse it. The blanks last as long as the flash.

I finally had the chance to use the OBD trick mentioned above. The "Check Engine" light appears to be flashing once every second - there's no delay at all. I tried it several times to repeat the results and nothing changes.
