Cool

6-speed, AWD option, 3.0L 3GR-FSE 3.0L Dual VVT-i 24 Valve V6 with 245 HP. The v8's will grow 0.3L shortly also.

It's fairly old news now.
The IS get's the 3.0L 3GR-FSE, and the 2.5L 4GR-FSE.

Later on we'll get the 3.5L 2GR-FSE, or the 5GR-FSE.

Cool

The GS430 has the 3UZ-FE.
The GS 400 has the later versions of the 1UZ-FE...
The 3UZ-FE will grown to 4.6L shortly with the introduction of LS/SC/GS 460s.

So Toyota will have a v8 in the 280 ci class. Fun!

it was suspected, but in the end, it was the 3GR-FSE...

i've seen a bunch of new GSs, and yes, they're all GS300s...

the 2GR is used in the Avalon (i think), the 1GR is used in 4 runners, Tacomas, etc...

the 4GR is 2.5 (smaller) and i think it's actually Diesel...

we'll probably get the 5GR-FSE in the GS's 3 year refreshening...

as for the 430, it's the same 3UZ as previous GSs, but it'll change later on...

First drive

Had a chance to keep the new GS 300 RWD over the weekend. It is nice to have rich friends.

Silky smooth. Sporty yet luxurios. Some may argue it is too smooth. I OTOH think Lexus had struck a fine balance. I love the car.

The 3.5L and the 6 speed are very very well matched. It is also a lot more responsive to throttle command and shifts a lot quicker. The older GS takes a tad longer to decide to shift. But this new one is IMHO as good as it gets.

The excellent and responsive powertrain makes the car feel lighter and more nimble. IMO it understeers a tad too much for my liking.

Very good driving position, well, for me at least, a slim 5' 8''. Tall guys may have trouble fitting well.

Can't wait to try the GS 430. Need more rich friends tho.
