Question 1999 RX300 Keeps Cutting Off

My wife's 1999 RX300 keeps cutting off at the start. This happens at times whether it's a warm start or cold start. When it happens, the idle is so low that the RPM drop to less than 50 and eventually shuts off. Her SUV acts as if it is not getting any fuel. It has high miles, 159K, but runs great until this recent problem. This problems happens from time to time and at times, it has cause the SUV to shut off after driving it for a short distance from a dead stop. What could this possible be?

The timing belt has been changed if you are wondering. I tried some Redline Fuel Injector cleaning and that appear to help some, but after a week of driving the SUV...same old thing. I am wondering if it clogged ports, injectors, or in need of a tune up. Any ideas?

My bet is tune up and probably the fuel filter.. if its clogged up then its probably not getting any fuel anymore.

I would guess this could be your problems (arranged from more likely to least likelyhood)
MAF sensor > fuel filter > throttle body cleaning > sparks+ignition wires.

Dear Sirs,
No the Raffle (or "fortunetelling")!
Mr. crain check and let we know Short and Long Fuel Trim of Bank 1 and Bank 2 at Idle and Acceleration. If its PIDs is more +/- 20 perc., "all will become on their own place"...
Regards,

Sorry guys that I hadn't checked back in a while...thanks for the advice. My problem was that the idle control air valve was clogged. Apparently, it's a common problem with high mileage vehicles, but this sure baffled me. It was a fairly simple fix to a very annonying problem.

WIfey's 99 RX300 with 117k miles experienced the same problem recently . I decoked the TB with a spray can of TB cleaner. It was really gunked up with carbon. I soaked the TB along with the connected lines. I am sure the IAC valve was cleaned some in the process. After this work, it ran like a top again!
