Engine Fan Fluid?

I was curious if anyone knows what the Engine Fan Fluid does in an SC400. A friend of mine at work just purchased the car and I thought she was kidding when she asked what type of fluid she should use. I looked under the hood and there it was a container labled engine fan fluid. My curiosity is what does that do exactley as I have never seen that fluid required before for an engine fan.

I've used it many times to lube muffler bearings. Good stuff, if it's fresh...

Never heard of fan fluid.. I've drank some at concerts, though..

I'll have to take a picture and post it. It should at least give some folks a good laugh. I didn't think it was for real until I saw it under the hood. Even then if another friend of mine hadn't also looked at it with me I might be second guessing myself thinking I'd confused it with the blinker fluid.

Might be the same as your power steering fluid. Some of the camry's have a drive system driven by the power steering system.

Take a look at the fan, does it have hoses, or wires goin to it!

I'm gonna guess that its antifreeze? I mean, mabye theres the picture of the fan so you associate it with the radiator?

You are not crazy, but using antifreeze is some bad information!

You have a COOLING FAN with HYDRAULIC MOTOR not only does this have an oil system with inlet piping, but a COOLING FAN RESERVOIR TANK which sounds like what you are describing.

I just checked my Alldata, I can only find one refrence and it does in fact (seperately) state during the cooling fan assembly procedure to:

1. to top up the cooling system with antifreeze,
2. and then top up the fan motor with "cooling fan fluid"

Looks like it may be connected to the Power steering oil cooler as there is a seperate cooling fan oil cooler as well. My best guess says it uses power steering fluid as it is connected to the PS system.

Excerpt from alldata:

"DISCONNECT POWER STEERING (PS) OIL COOLER FROM COOLING FAN OIL COOLER Remove the 2 bolts, and disconnect the PS oil cooler from the cooling fan oil cooler."

Do not put coolant in this! Go to the dealer and ask for "cooling fan fluid", see what oil is recommended for this system.

I'm sure someone can confirm this for you, that is familiar with this engine.

Thats all I got.

OK, after further looking. The factory service manual shows using dexron II / ATF or equivilant.
