USA '02 Original DVD/CD changer malfunction

Ok, so the little door attached to the DVD/CD changer will not shut, allowing the unit to operate. I am looking at the possibility of pulling the changer out of the center console, in order to better see if I can fix this problem or if I will need to find a new one. (One thing to note, I have NO idea as to HOW to get the changer out of the console, without the possibility of breaking another expensive item.) The other option would be to eliminate the original changer and install and new after-market unit, but I do not have a wiring diagram, allowing me to see how I would integrate a different unit with the rest of the audio / Nav touchscreen.

If any of you could give me guidance as to the best alternatives, either by keeping the existing unit (which works perfectly, electronically) or just scrapping it and going to a new one, either a direct replacement or after-market, I would be very appreciative. Thanks much in advance.
