Yaris
Pros:
- cheaper to buy/insure/refuel
- flexible cargo area (if it's the hatchback)
- very spacious (sedan)
- "premium" econobox/subcompact feel such as push-activated cupholders (sedan)
- tons of storage space (hatchback)
- high seating position
- black interior
- tons of storage spaces (hatchback)
Cons:
- a little buzzy at higher speeds
- sculpted front/rear seats offer basic support
- it's still a subcompact (exposed screwheads, hard plastic, cheaper plastic interior door handles etc)
- can get very close to Corolla prices when loaded
- most of storage spaces are open and not lidded
Corolla
Pros:
- Brand new design
- lots of standard features
- standard safety features (ABS w/EBD, BA, 6 airbags)
- optional TRAC/VSC
- better materials (cloth, plastic)
- Quieter, more comfortable ride (wider track, acoustic windshield)
- Brand new 1ZR engine
- premium compact feel (tight panel gaps, damped lower glovebox, larger front seats, solid feel to the switches and other components)
- tilt/tele steering wheel
Cons:
- It's a Corolla. Not as exciting to look at compared to a Yaris HB
- Colours are typical (white, black, silver, grey, beige... only red stands out)
- larger car (if parking space is a premium)
- higher price tag over the Yaris
- slightly lower seating position
- less rear footroom than the Yaris
