It shouldn't say AUTO like the others. There should be a little hollow circle, the symbol for the sidemarkers and the symbol for the lowbeams.

As long as you're on the hollow circle, it'll be automatic. Should turn on your lights if it gets dark for a minute? Some little time period like that. Try it, turn your car on, cover the dome without touching it for a minute or so, and wait.
