As long as you're on the hollow circle, it'll be automatic. Should turn on your lights if it gets dark for a minute? Some little time period like that. Try it, turn your car on, cover the dome without touching it for a minute or so, and wait.

whoa.. that's trippy. Cause you know from other Toyota vehicles, there's a separate AUTO position that's one more click after full headlights right?
Zenith, I don't have a Corolla, I just test drove one but I'll keep that in mind the next time I'm at the showroom. If it's auto, that's fantastic!! I'm kinda spoiled with automatic headlights (Although I do turn on the taillights if necessary.. .like this morning when it was raining and visibility was poor).
Jeff: interesting... so even if you turn to the "-" (sidemarker) position, it doesn't turn off the headlights and run on the DRLs + side/parking/taillights?
