add yamaha's knowledge to the mix, and 220 should be a breeze. i don't think the 220 hp out of two naturally-aspirated liters is the question. that can be easily done and has been done. heck, they toyota/subie/yamaha can design it with good mpg and reliability to boot.

^lubrication problems can be an issue, though i don't see something major as that coming out of a toyota, and i'm sure toyota would like to keep it that way. an electronic mishap is more likely to come about these days, such as the tranny flares in the gen6 camry drivetrains.
and yeah. boxer engines are sweet right out of the box. they've never been anemic from the factory from what i recall, but that's somewhat due to tuning. the two major companies utilizing boxer engiens (porsche and subaru) didn't have uber-high mpg in their mind when creating their boxer engines- even the n/a four-banger in the base impreza.

^yup. even the lesser integras were totally different machines from the factory. almost every suspension component was highly combed-over. stock suspension was one of the greatest for a fwd car, and some would say it
IS the greatest fwd suspension. basically everything nowadays is designed with push-understeer from the factory because it's safer for the general public.
