Agreed. In Cuba several years ago I had the "pleasure" of "operating" a Hyundai Atos with a 1.1L 4-banger engine making 60 horsepower. There were a total of 5 people in the car. I don't I need to explain the how the thing performed.
Basically at any gradient, you'd have to shift down to 3rd and the car would simply slow down.
Not to mention the various Soviet-era cars that I've been in. For instance a Moskvitch from the late 1970s, a 1980s Lada, a Trabant!
My father was the proud owner of a 1971 Moskvitch 407 which was passed down by my grandpa. It used to be white, but by the time I was born it was orange because too much rust developed on the doors. This is exactly the car from my childhood:
1.4L 4-banger making 48 horsepower paired to a 4 speed manual. In this car, either the radio worked, or the engine, but not both. And the turn signal stalk often ended up in your hand even after you were done with it.
