Yea, that's the big misconception that many still hold. Modern engines take as little as 7 seconds worth of fuel to restart, so turning the engine off with just idling can reap big dividends.
I have a 100k mile bumper to bumper warranty, so I'm not worried about the extra wear and tear with only 40k miles on my truck.
