Cobalt turns off the low beam (so to speak.. I believe it's a one bulb, dual beam setup). My Prius is the same yet high beams doesn't truly compromise near visibility. On the Cobalt, it did so we left it on low beams all the way down Yosemite (it was a rental car and Yosemite, if you don't know, is twisty)
