I think the Camry JBL system is probably the finest system in this market segment -- you can definitely think of it as an "entry-level" luxury "designed for the acoustics of this particular car" system. You can read more about that, here:

No, I suppose if you want thumping bass that everyone in the neighborhood can hear, then that's not the kind of sound that the JBL system can provide. But, if you want excellent, balanced, high-quality sound at reasonable volume levels, the JBL system is absolutely excellent. It's far better than any system I've ever had in any previous vehicle. And, while aftermarket systems might well give you more thumping bass volume, there's just no way that the "average" aftermarket system could match the balance and the ambiance designed into the JBL system. You would need a far more top-of-the-line system with an actual professional acoustics engineer tuning it, to approach the results of all of the hours that the JBL professionals put into tuning their system to the Camry's interior.
I'm 100% satisfied with the JBL system, and couldn't recommend it more highly!
