The 09 Corollas really look nice compared to what they have been in a long time, especially the XRS. I saw one and it is an impressive looking car, I had to do a double take since I did not think it was a corolla.
I hear the steering is drive by wire. Not familiar with that.

Yeah they're a lot bigger but they're also quite comfortable to sit in.
The steering is electrically power-assisted (i.e. no hydraulics and therefore no power steering fluid). The accelerator is by-wire (drive-by-wire) and that's been in the Corolla since 2005 (the midlife update). The steering is still mechanically connected to a rod.
