Yeah they're a lot bigger but they're also quite comfortable to sit in.

The steering is electrically power-assisted (i.e. no hydraulics and therefore no power steering fluid). The accelerator is by-wire (drive-by-wire) and that's been in the Corolla since 2005 (the midlife update). The steering is still mechanically connected to a rod.
