You can't go wrong with Pioneer. I have the pioneer DEH-4900ib which has been discontinued, but they still make something similar. I got the Premier version which comes with the ipod cord (otherwise you had to buy it separately, but it isn't expensive).

I will also advise you against any Sony Xplod head units. I had one of those with the ipod hookup in my previous truck. The main problem was the ipod navigation. The controls were not intuitive at all, and even once I got used to them it was still a pain. For example, you had to turn on the shuffle feature every time, which was irritating as hell. With the pioneer I can leave it on shuffle. Also, choosing a playlist took way too long because there was no select button. I can't really testify about the sound quality of it because it was hooked up to stock F-150 speakers (much, much, much worse than stock Taco speakers). Another plus is the faster connection speed with the pioneer cable.

As far as Ipod, go with pioneer or alpine, stay away from sony.
