Another way to measure if the GPS is of right size is when the sunglasses holder is closed, put the GPS underneath it. Is the GPS smaller than the lid? Flip down the lid and put the GPS next to the left or right of the holder. Is it thinner?

I think when the lid is flipped down, you have more room. Not only is the lid further down, but you have more room inside the compartment. That is probably why you're able to fit the GPS but when you close it, you dont. My gf took my Garmin Nuvi so I cant take a picture of what I mean until Wednesday. But I think you know what i mean.
