Actually the black and orange ADBV does say a little bit about the filters. The black ADBVs are typically nitrile rubber and tends to get stiff and harden. Higher quality filters have silicone ADBV which are typically orange.

So his comparison wasn't completely useless. He managed to discover, unbeknownst to him, that the Mobil 1 at the minimum has a higher quality ADBV.
