I believe that mounting a rack and pinion steering system into an inline engine configuration requires the rack to be mounted forward of the engine. If the car wasn't originally designed for this, it might be a major mod. I don't know what the Mk II had, so I'm just saying. All the new FWD cars have the rack behind the engine.
