I had no idea that star thing was a cover, I called a few parts shops asking for a weird socket that would fit it. I didn't want to try pulling apart the whole thing without the right socket, and I wanted to "practice" pulling apart a junkyard car before trying it "for real", now I'll try pulling the pin and prying off the cover.

This is exactly the info I've been looking for, I didn't see a cover mentioned in the Chilton book or in any other posts I'd found yet. Thanks!
