Do we know if this will be the Final Production Name?

I want to buy a website with the words Toyota FT86 in the domain. Is this going to be the nameplate for the porduction vehicle? Or will it change to something else?

It's most likely going to change. There's talk that it will even be released under the Scion badge. However I don't believe that because Toyota needs a LOT of good publicity right now and in the future.

Scion has nothing to do with FT-86. FT-86 will most likely be badged Toyota Celica GT-S.

No way will it be released under Scion. Scion is a dead and played out. Supposedly Toyota wanted to have an entry level brand that brings youth in Toyota brand. Obviously, that never happened and Toyota buyer demographics continued to get older. I don't even know if Scion will exist in the next 3 -5 years.

FT-86 is a Toyota product and built to re-brand Toyota's image as youthful and performance oriented brand to attract younger buyers.

I doubt it'll be badged as a Celica and furthermore. I hope it doesn't get badged as a Celica. Besides, its suppose to be an iteration of the AE86 Corolla. It would make no sense at all for it to wear the Celica nameplate.

why not? originally the celica itself was broken off of the corolla. Hell, it seems like pretty much every toyota was.

although with the different versions they have a chance at different names too.

I don't think their going to go back to 1969 and call it a supra. but 2000gt corolla has a nice ring to it.

The Celica was not broken off from the Corolla, nor did it share a platform with the Corolla. They were never related. The Supra was from the Celica, but the Celica was not from the Corolla.

The name "Supra" first made it's appearance in 1978, and only outside of Japan, the Supra name wasn't used in Japan until 1986.

As for bringing back a name, I don't think it will happen. Toyota has never (that I am aware of) brought back a name after it was determined it was no longer marketable. I doubt they'll start now.

IMO, if anything it will be a grade of a current nameplate (i.e. Corolla GT-S) or a new nameplate altogether, or replace something else (Scion tC anyone?)

Jeff

I wouldn't mind it being called the Corolla gt-s. I wouldn't mind the Celica name either being that it is marketed as a true sports car and would fit with the older celicas. Too bad the subaru version dropped the AWD, I would like to see a new GT4

There are lots of rumors and lots of BS spreading around.

The FT-86 is not going to have a name with past models. would not make sense with its past name
production. This is a new model with the spirit of AE86 theory with other Toyota sport compact class.

From seeing Toyota news in general and less of FT-86 as part. Toyota has a long way to take existing or next generation technology and connections within its parts company to lower cost. Telsa motors, Subaru shares, Arrangement of where its going to be build, etc. After the Concept showcase, its be proved that there is a market for these cars since there is not a car in International market with in its classs/price range.

There is a reason there is not much shown in detail yet.
