Angry Instantaneous fuel consumption display

Just got a 2009 xB for about a month now and just notice that this function on the multi- information display might not be working. Every time I go to this function its blank, only has lines as if its been reset. So I started driving with this function displayed and the numbers would just jump around and when the car comes to a complete stop the numbers would disappear as if it was reset. Can some one HELP me out. Thanks

That is what Instantanious means. It's the fuel mileage at that exact moment.

When your not moving you're getting o miles/gallon. when you're moving, you're getting whatever the display is telling you you're getting.
If you want something a little more long term, the next step on the display is the continuous mileage. you can reset that and see what you are getting over a period of time.

If you jump into your owners manual, it will better explain it but your car's readout is doing exactly what it is supposed to do. Giving you a real time mpg based on your throttle position, and speed and rpms.

Thanks for the reply but according to the manual the reading should reset when the car is shut off not when the car comes to a stop? When the car is stop shouldn't the display show the last reading?
