Do the second generation XBs still have windshield problems?

I love the XB, but the thing preventing me form getting one is that the windshields tend to crack at a very frequent basis, and Toyota never put out a recall. I guess it boils down to the actual design of the car. I remember reading a lot of the first gens having this issue.

I ask this because I just recently got my new Car and Driver, and on a second gen XB extended test drive write up, the noted that they had to replace the windshield within the year. This worries me greatly, because it seems that the cracking is still a problem.

Any experience or thoughts on the matter?

There's nothing to recall. It's based on the angle of the glass. It's really not any more extreme then a truck but you're a little lower so you're bound to take a few more rocks.

I've had my xB for a little over a year and I need to replace my glass but I live on gravel and thats just a hazard of my life. I Love my xB as it is and I dont' see it being any better or worse but they are bound to take a rock or two just like any other car.

HatenFate,

I noticed you listed a scion dealer in your sig. I would like to ask if this is something you see from other customers? Is your scion first or second gen? I have been trying to narrow down a list of daily drivers.

My xB is a 2nd gen(2008).

I don't see it too often from other customers. I see it on the boards alot but if you notice, no one online ever talks about the good things. Bad news travels fast. Anything that breaks, travels accross the internet like a bullet.

the 1st gen xB's did see a few more rock chips then most cars because of the design of the a-pillars. The car is low to the ground and has a very upright windshield. It's not that it took more rocks then any other car, its the angle the rocks hit the window at. The glass seemed a little thin to me also but thats just an opinion and not based on any facts or specs.

the 2nd gen xB's have a little bit better glass but still have a somewhat steep angle of attack. Rocks Still hit the window a little closer to perpendicular then it would a camry or corolla but what are ya gonna do?

I've had broken windshields on my last couple cars. I don't see the xB being much worse and I can get a new windshield installed for less then 300 dollars if I get aftermarket glass. I really enjoy my car and everyone I've talked to that owns them is really happy with thier choice to buy.

I hope that has helped answer your questions.

Yeah, thanks for the help. I figured that if a windshield is the most glaring issue with a vehicle, then the car is doing alright. There a few things I am curious about, but I should probably save those for another thread.

Thanks again.

xB2s are a completely different platform so they should NOT have any issues. Then again I never had issues with my 05' 1st gen either. Still rockin the original glass from the factory! No Cracks.
