It's an echo, it's fun to drive but that's all it should be. To make it a little more stable, wider rims and tires may be a good idea. Lower the height might help too. Stronger springs will also benefit handling, but leads to uncomfortable ride, also, you need to adjust shock firmness/rebound and make sure they work well togather, which is very important and can be alot of work sometimes. Torsion beam itself is already like a sway bar, (not exactly but there really is no need ). Actually, echos can handle very well.. super light weight and all.
So, to improve handling, start with tires, rims, struts, and work your way up. But don't even think about replacing the entire rear suspension geometry. The chassis is not designed for it, you need to calculate all the stress point... find the right parts.. weld.. just forget it, the money can get you a very good used MR2.
If you want crazy handling, just buy a MKI and drive it for week ends. Echo is perfect, basic, fun transportation.
