Lightbulb Echo Oem Upgrades...

Hell, second post, first with my own question.

I have a 2003 ECHO sedan, STOCK cookie cutter with auto, air, PS, and all OEM.

My question is this, did Toyota build all ECHOs with the same wiring harness? I just added the tweeters from my 2002 ECHO (tragically lost in battle with a parked semi truck last week ). I would have grabbed all the speakerss, but couldn't find them. (Car was opened like a can)

To my surprise, my 2003 ECHO that came with the base radio and 4 speakers, had the wiring for the dash speakers taped inside the opening.

I desided to do some more exploring, I pulled the interior light dimmer switch panel off and behind the coin holder, there is another unused connector, presumably for the POWER rear view mirrors.

Has anyone ADDED these features or other OEMs to a base or plain ECHO? To what extent does the harness exist? I'd like to add power locks, power mirrors and the digital clock.

Possible?

I am in the middle of installing Toyota OEM cruise control and vehicle intrusion protection system in a 2005 Echo. The cruise control comes with installation instructions for a 2002. The instructions worked great up to the point where it tells you to connect to the Neutral Saftey Wire. The connector and pin number it tells you to use are wrong, the wire does not exist. Am working on finding it now without a lot of luck. So at least the wiring for 2002 and 2005 is different.

On the vehicle intrustion side, the kit did not come with a installation guide and had to get one faxed to me from the Toyota regional office. Have started the install and there are a lot of pre-installed connectors (upper rt speaker, dash cut rt of dimmer, etc.). I get the impression that most of the extra connectors or pre-wire are for the vehicle intrusion system. Don't think there is much in the way of install pre-wires for the remote mirrors and it dosen't appear to be an option on my 2005. Hope this helps some.

I just bought the OEM Toyota Manual for this car. Hopefully it will shed some light for me as well.

I've installed the dash speakers from my wrecked 02 into my 03, and they are perfect match, connectors and all. counln't ask for anything easier.

I have found s rew other connectors on the harness, as I mentioned on my post above, hopefully I will be about to utilize thise as well.

The hardewst thing seems to be finding parts from a junk yard or aftermarket OEM style parts. I hate paying the dealer cost for parts.

Cause I bought the 05 Echo new, I wanted to get new OEM parts. The best source I found for new OEM was www.toyota-parts.com. Its a Texas dealership that sells parts on the internet at the best price I could find. Seems there is a new company selling parts buying software to dealers and this site uses it, its pretty easy to find parts. For a lot of the parts, check various years (2002, 2003, 2004, etc.). Parts availability seems to vary by year but the part numbers are the same. On the down side, the support sucks. They never returned any of my calls about manuals and it took a week to get the vehicle intrustion manual faxed to me. They could not seem to figure out how to e-mail it to me.

They didn't sell much at all for the echo.

I didn't think it would be so difficult to get some decent OEM style rearview mirrors with manual INSIDE remotes and a little more style.

Maybe I'll find one in the junk yard.
