i plan to put a racing seat in the driver's seat. i also will put in aftermarket shift knob, possibly a racing steering wheel.
for wheels, i will get my own alloys and tires afterwards. I don't really care for the fog lamps, or the RS grill badge or the side skirt and spoiler. the only thing i want from the RS is the 60/40 and folding flat rear seat feature. should i say forget it and just get the LE for $2500 bucks cheaper than the RS? will i regret the back seat feature.. ah.. decisons.
Might as well since $2,500 for 60/40 split seats is rather expensive and won't make sense since you'd switch out the front sport seats and change alloys. You might as well stick with the LE.

how expensive would it be to change the back seats? maybe go to a junkyard and get the 60/40 seats from a wrecked echo?? this is my main concern with the yaris as well. i NEED to have the 60/40 seats.

The seats from an Echo will not fit the new Yaris platform, unless you are planning on doing a complete custom job with the interior, which will end up costing you as much as the RS upgrade...
The 60/40 seats in the RS also slide forward to increase boot space and back to increase rear passenger leg room, and they also recline, and fold completely flat...
In the CE/LE, it's not just the split seats you are losing out on, it's also increased leg/trunk room, and a flat loading area for larger items...

I'm in the same boat, but I find that if I calculate each additional parts separately the total quickly adds up.
I think I'm going to go with the 5-door RS personally. Even though I do not care for some of the options that come in the RS package (like the "mini-skirts" ), other options would be missing or would be too expensive to add later on by myself.
I originally wanted a 2 door CE with the b package in ab red. I was told that the yaris packages were not going to be shipped until Jan. After much sharpening of pencils I decided to go for the 2dr RS. I am an artist and the totally flat fold down back and split seats tipped the balance. I did insist on air, which was dealer installed at a reduced rate. I would have prefered the c package with the RS but as I was renting a car, it did not seem to be worth the 3 month wait. Also in three months a Yaris will be common place on the roads. It is nice to be stopped in parking lots and asked "What is that car?". My friends visiting from England also enjoy driving a can that will not be in the UK until Jan.
The Toyota marketing of the Yaris models looks like a fine science. It is painful to choose between models. The cool looking split seat and frumpy bench seat are perhaps the most cruel items to have to choose between. Toyota - I hate you, I love you - I am being used!
It was the ONLY reason for me to get the RS (60/40 split) as there is not nearly enough room in hatchback trunk to hold groceries for more than a few days for the growin kids in the house!!!
It also raises a HUGE black mark against Toyota for this blatant cash grab.
If you really need the flexibility and still need to shave a few bucks, simply wait.
Come spring when Nissan and other competitors offer newer hatchback models with more HP and features at a lower price, it will force Toyota to lower leasing rates and perhaps offer a sale. At this time I hear many are on waiting lists anyway and a big plus is you save half a season from having to buy snow tires. New Yaris tires suck pretty bad.
i emailed toyota on friday about the seats and they havent got back to me yet. im willing to bet the 07 models wont have this backseat problem, too many people turned off.
