Engine Temperature Light

Just curious. The Yaris has the "COOL" light when the engine's cold. I assume this is to replace the water temperature light. Is there one in case it overheats? Wouldn't a needle be better cause it allows you to see the needle move towards the red before it actually does?

Yes, there is one which will light up when the engine is overheated. Like you, I also prefer to see a conventional meter with a needle. Cheers.

Factory gauges are so heavily damped, seeing the needle move is usually already panic time...unless you plan on installing an aftermarket gauge, it's not really a benefit...

Tideland Prius, please look at the meter dial when you turn your key to start your Yaris. For a brief moment you will be able to see the red overheat warning sign.
