Yaris handbrake

I've got a 2 month old automatic Yaris YR. When I'm in drive on a flat road, with handbrake on, my car rolls. The handbrake works just fine when I'm in park. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Yeah usually you only have the hand break on when your car is parked. Although I'm ashamed to say it, i've pulled out of my drive way with the hand break on, your car will still go but it will lag, cause you will notice some pull and wonder what that is and look down-ooh! I've been in a car with a woman who was driving with the hand break on and she didn't realize it till we got to the destination to we were going to, but you can smell something fishy. But yeah don't drive with the hand break on, it wears it out and its just not good for the car. of course the car is going to "roll." its in drive! But yeah that's not good to do to your break. Hope that helps!

YOSHI are you on CRACK or something????????????? is this the first time you have driven a car?????????? Because as the others have said the only time a hand brake should be used is if you are in park OR if you are about to hit a Moose but you guys don’t have them in Australia so you don’t have to worry I personally only use a hand brake if I am on a deep hill OR about to hit a Moose anyways that new Yaris that you got wont be in good shape any more if you keep driving with your handbrake on STOP USUEING THE HAND BRAKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't think you were clear enough in your question.

Do you mean that when the car is on a flat road, in Drive and your foot is off the gas, idle power is enough to make the car creep forward?

If so, that's not right. Idle shouldn't be able to move your car (at least not an echo/Yaris....there shouldn't be enough torque to overcome the handbrake.

When you're in Park and on a flat road, nothing should be happening. Even if you're on a hill and in Park, the transmission will hold you in place because there is a pin that locks everything in place while in park. You will roll maybe an inch or two and then stop.

Two things......don't leave your car tranny in 'drive' if you are stopped for that long, change to Neutral. Next.....I think the Yaris handbrake is pi$$ weak. I asked my dealer to adjust mine on the first service, still won't hold in our driveway, UNLESS you reef it nearly to the roof lining So.....I need to adjust it up some more.

The parking brake should be strong enough to prevent the car from rolling under its own weight, but it's not going to be able to work against the engine too.
