Dealer Invoice on Yaris

Hello everyone,

My GF has her heart set on purchasing the Yaris CE Liftback. I've been doing some reading on your reviews and they are all positive which is great.

Our/her problem is that she cannot afford to spend more that $200 so finance it is. Now can anybody tell me about how one goes about negotiating price in this matter?

1. Do you settle on how much the car is going to be first and then tell them what you can pay a month? or
2. Do you just say this is how much i can spend.. what can you do for me?

I want to give the man a commission but at the same time i don't feel like paying MSRP on the car and they finance fees on top of that.

Any and all help in this matter is greatly appreciated, this will be our first time doing something like this. FYI: I purchased my car off an auction, thus didn't learn the skills.

Hi Dj-Torn, I found it very useful to join the APA (Automotive Protection Association - which is a consumers advocacy gorup) in Canada. I imagine that in the US there must be a similar organization. As a potential new buyer who knows very little about negotiating or the whole process of buying a car, they provide you with all the orientation needed in addition to other benefits. One of these benefits is that they deal with certain delarship directly as an organization and they get the bottom prices, which are lower than the lowest price that a dealer will give you if you just walk in from the streets. I already confirmed this, by getting a quote for a Yaris through APA from a dealer that they deal with in, and the quote was quite tempting. However, in the end I decided that I will buy an used Echo instead. (I know I may get some grief from Yaris lovers here for this.

Hello DJ-Torn, unless you are planning on putting a big chunk of money for the down-payment, it's going to be quite hard if your gf's budget is only 200$ for the financing payments. I just bought a 2007 yaris rs hatchback and my monthly payments are pretty hefty!

How old is your gf? and did she or will she be graduating from college/university? If she qualifies for the graduate program...she'll save at least 500$.

Good luck!

Usually if you finance the car dealers are less willing to negotiate on the price. So it would be advantages to get a pre approved car loan at a bank or credit union etc.

Otherwise, you may choose to lease the car. Zero Downpayment leases are very popular now. You should be able to Lease a Yaris for $200 a month.

However, if you finance with them, they are collecting a set fee from financing company for that contract, and they may be more willing to deal. Use that as a bargaining chip. Cash is not that much of an incentive anymore for dealers, especially on a car with fast turnover.

Toyota is big enough to Finance they're own cars. I still believe a Cash payment nets you a better deal because Toyota (Corporate) my limit the amount a car can be discounted when financed through them.
