Yaris aftermarket performance options?

Hey, i'm doing some research for my mother on small sporty cars, and she's really interested in buying the Yaris. I really like it too, there's just one little thing; the lack of power, or more importantly, it's sluggish exceleration
now, before she's even test-driven it, is it REALLY as bad as i've read it to be?
her car before this was a 96 Saturn, and it wasn't exactly a sports car, but because of it's weight it didn't perform too badly
is it the same with the Yaris?

i realize all she really has to do is take it for a test drive though, so my REAL question is this:

what are the options, if any, for aftermarket engine upgrades?
i know cold air intakes and exausts really don't do much, they're mostly for looks and sound, but are these the only options?
can't really wait for the TS, if it'll ever get here
any help would be great
thanks a lot

Test drive one ,you'll find that it's not sluggish at all...No, it wont eat Scooby STis for breakfast, but it's a fairly quick car nonetheless, I have the 5 speed, can't speak for the autobox...

Intake and exhaust will net you maybe 3-5 hp, but mostly added noise...

TTE (Toyota Team Europe) makes a supercharger, if you have gobs of cash to spend importing and tuning it for the North American ECU...

Cheers
