Canada Dilemma - Manual or standard transmission

I have been agonizing for the past four days over the option of getting an Echo with a manual or a standard transmission. I found a 2003 Echo within my price range that is still under warranty, has an alarm and other very practical features. The only drawback is that it has an automatic transmission. I began to think that I would get this car for sure but then I went to test drive an Echo with a manual trasnmission and it felt very sweet and responsive - a true pleasure to drive. While I was at the dealer, the sales person told me that 85% of the Echos sold in Canada were automatic which made me wonder, about the chances of getting a 2003 or 2004 Echo, hatchback or sedan with a manual transmission. On the one hand, the Echo that I found is a good deal and has a lot of neat features. On the other hand, driving the standard was really enjoyable.

I need other perspectives from fellow board member. I would appreciate any suggestions or thoughts.

C

I agree with stuts. get a Yaris Fo Sho! as the the trans. I would definitely get a standard for this type of vehicle. like you said yourself....reposniveness. Way more fun to drive in my opinion, but i'm a control freak!
