Can someone explain why one would pay extra $$$ for rust proofing. I know the dealer makes a bundle by sucking in unsuspecting buyers, and If it was a Ford or Chevy, OK, but Toyota,s Honda's etc are made with high quality metals. And the Yaris already comes with a 5 year Corrosion Perforation warranty. My dad drives his 1998 Toyota Corolla approx 15,000km a year, it,s always parked outside and hasn't got a spot of rust on it, and he didn't pay for any optional rustproofing or undercoating.

For the $400 it cost me to get it done it is worth it! due to inside of doors and inbetween all the small cracks where the problems begin. the big picture would look good, it is all the small areas. You forgot to mention your dad lives in Florida . Your dad did get lucky if he drives that much. I put 200000 km on my 99 4RUNNER and let me tell you there was no rust proofing done on it and there is a huge difference. But you don't have to do anything you don't want just don't keep you cars long term

My dad, like me, lives in Canada's Florida, Victoria. He lives across the street from the ocean. I guess because of our weather we don't get much salt put on the roads in winter, as a result, we don't have rust problems. Except for people that bring cars here from back east or up north.

I guess I can see the reason behind rust proofing especially in places where it snows or you live by the ocean. But from what I read and general knowledge its a big waste of money. Especailly now a days, wheres car manufacturers already put rust proofing stuff on. If you go to a aftermarket place and get it, you don't know if its there obviously being a clear coat. I don't know, I'm a sckeptic, the dealer is trying to milk more money out of you, but if you feel you have to get it, more power to you, heck I might get it. I remember when I bought my car the dealer was pushing for it or made it out to be a big deal. They push for all these ad ons and that's one of them. Each to his/her own. Oh congrad's on the car

You are rite on about the manufaturers I work in the weld shop at the toyota plant in Cambridge ON. and when the body of the car leaves weld shop the vehicle gets cleaned and the entire car get dipped in an ED tank which coats the steel before it goes to the paint shop. Anyway I got the rust proof for cost threw the dealler so I figured why not keep my baby in the best condition and for the longest time. It just can't hurt.

Rustproofing is a must in Ontario and parts of southern Québec in my opinion. Ottawa gets one of the highest amounts of freezing rain in all of Canada (Environment Canada stat), so they use lots of salt as well...thus promoting insane amounts of rust, often only within about 6 or 7 years from new.

Toyota has an excellent rustproofing price really. 399 for the undercoating and the rust proofing coating inside the panels is an excellent investment. It only takes an inspection once in a while (free if done during an oilchange) to keep the protection/warranty active. Plus the warranty is very very good.

If you don`t get it from the factory, stuts is right, Krown is the way to go.

just my $0.02...
