How can I find info about production country?

Hi all

A friend of mine bought a Yaris some years back, and was really satisfied with it. Then, later, she bought a new one, and found she didn't like it too much. Some later, she found the latter had been produced in France, whereas the first had been produced in Japan.

How can I check where a Yaris is produced before buying it?

just check the VIN number. the first letter in the number represents the country where it was built. so "J" = japan.

All later Yaris' and the new Yaris sold in the UK and Europe are now built in France...

Except for those sold in North America. They are still build in Japan.
The factory in France had a problem in the beginning which led to a recall (some screws near the rear axle could come loose so it rattled), but is working just like any other Toyota plant now
