Buying a Yaris Liftback

Hi, I think I'm gonna buy an 06' Yaris Liftback 5-speed. I was wondering if someone owned it here already and could tell me a little more about them... are they fun to drive? do they really get 34mpg? how's the sound system? can you rev the engine without any problems? good handling? I'm pissed that it doesn't come with a tachometer, but oh well, I can change the gauges after I buy it.

Pelko, I have a 2007 Canadian spec Yaris Hatchback. I am getting the posted mileage for the car, but I use mostly freeway, and drive conservatively in town. As far as fun to drive, I can switch lanes without irritating anyone. I am so small, no one feels as if I am cutting them off! Handling is ok, but I would recommend getting 15" tires or larger for a proper ride. The sound system is average; all the speakers are in the doors, so you really need to crank the volume to hear anything. It isn't a strong suit of the car. As far as the tach, mine has one and I can't understand why the US doesn't get them.

I picked Yaris over Fit because of purchase price and fuel economy. The difference isn't huge, but for a 2nd commuter car, I chose the cheaper-to-own Yaris. I think the Fit is a better all rounder. That being said, I love my Yaris!

I see your in the U.S. as well, just a minor detail, the Yaris that comes out here (U.S.) is an 07' where's Canada it came out last year as an 06' but that was short run and now they also have 07's which coincides with the U.S. release of the Yaris. I'm sure you ment 07' just an innocent mistake and if not it you might look silly asking for a car model year that didn't exist in the U.S. Hey, just watchin' out for ya! I personally wish I was in the market for one but I'm not, as it wouldn't make sense because I just paid off my car...oh well!
There's a site called www.yarisworld.com, go there as well and I'm sure they will be happy to anwser your questions, or you can just look at the posts there and see what they are saying, I believe that personal review and real time ownership is better than some magazine, yes they both have their ups and downs, but I'm sure real ownership is a little more accurate. If you do buy one, posts pics or keep us up dated! Good luck!!
