ok... i don't have a yaris but i'm actually interested in getting one. In my opinion it looks a lot nicer than the Fit.

now as for your question, with an intake and exhaust, on my 91 cb7 (accord), I actually witnessed a improvement in my mpg. I believe this is caused mainly by the intake which allows the air to flow in better and thus increase my mpg. not sure but hope this helps.

As for turbo, you will see a decrease in the mpg. I don't know why but you will.

Recent Toyota models seem to respond less to exhaust and intake mods, presumably as Toyota is doing a better job building them. That said, an intake and exhaust, properly designed, should see some improvement in mileage, at the expense of noise. A turbo won't suck any more fuel by itself. Now, if you take advantage of the power it will!

Now, best mods are subjective. A full intake, header and exhaust combo will gain you a little power (perhaps 5-10% more total). Coupled with some tuning using an SAFC and some time on the dyno with a wideband sensor, you may pick up a few more ponies.

Turbos are advanced mods, and will require a significant overhaul of the car, from the fuel system through to the exhaust and intake, and engine internals if you push them all too far. Yes, they offer a lot of bang for the buck, but a home brewed system is destined to give you problems if you are inexperienced with it. There is also the TRD supercharger kit that was made for the last generation Vitz/Yaris that may be an option...but again, significant mods. In my readings on some of the echo sites, anything pushing 150 or more HP is asking the NZ engines to grenade, even on modded internals. There may be a few success stories, but they are fairly rare.

Bob

yap......i believe most ppl suffer bad mpg after mods bcos they just want to blow that exhaust.......or show off the extra hp on the 0-60miles stretch

so more intense pedal activity = more fuel used

but overall minor mods sldn't affect mpg........right?

well i am really new to mods.........so what is recommended for softcore modders?

Quiet, but throaty exhaust perhaps, perhaps an intake. I'm more a suspension whore myself, and will blow the wad there before even looking at the engine bay. The couple of ponies available are rarely as much fun as taking on and off ramps at double or more the recommended speed, or launching through the twisties are, and you really don't need much power for that.

You also avoid the ever present police problems by keeping a stock appearance and sound...

Yep, I'd bet that making the suspension lower and flatter, reducing squat, nosedive and pitch, and adding grippy tires would net shorter lap times than than the gains from a 1-2 hp muffler or intake...

Cheers
