Well i recently purchased a Yaris and am having an issue with the gas gauge. Not sure why they decided to go digital but what can you do.
From what i understand from the manual, the last bar will flash letting you know you are low on fuel. It will then flash faster when you are really low(?) and then when you are out the check gauges light will appear.
Do I understand this correct. If so how far can you go on the flashing light, anyone tested it out yet?

Welcome to Toyota Nation so you got a Yaris eh Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!!! What did you end up getting other than the five speed Also do me a favour Blueberry obviously you don’t have to listen but hopefully you will don’t make a new thread for this you could of asked kind of LIKE YOU DID in the Crappy Gas Mileage forum about the digital fuel gauge anyways you are right about the last bar flashing faster I have read that in the instruction manual and I believe you would get what you normally would get on a bar my highest so far is 114km on one bar but I am sure you would easily be able to bang off 60/80km on the last bar no one has had the balls to go long on the finial bar from what I can remember their may have been one person but not sure
So the flashing bar just indicates you are on the last bar and when it flashes faster it would be the same as the low fuel light coming on.
Actually my Yaris is an auto(had to for the wife as we now only have one vehicle)
Blazing blue,5dr, B package. ext 5 yr 160k comp warranty cause im going to beat the factory warranty in less than 2yrs. lol

yep with the flashing bar also your Yaris sounds like a beauty I wish you could post pictures of it
When the gage detects that there is less than 15% of the tank left, it will flash the bottom bar every 1.6 seconds. When it drops below 10%, it will flash every 0.8 seconds. When you run out, it will trigger a check engine light.. duh.. because it won't run without gas..
Since we have an 11 gallon tank, you can guestimate that if it's doing the rapid 0.8 second falshing that you have about a gallon or less of gas left, and can only make it another 25-35 miles.

would the U.S. not have the same size of tank as us in Canada it is a 42 Liter tank which is 9.2 Gallons in Canada

*contemplates using Canadian joke* NAAHHH!
But the tank in the US Yarises...Yarisus...Yarisii....What the hell is the plural of Yaris...is bigger. I put 10.4 gal in mine the other day and it was doing the faster blink rate. I think the tank is 11.1 gal.
Seems us Americans have everything bigger.... LOL.. Sorry, couldn't help myself..
Odd that they would use a smaller tank.. but I'm 100% sure we have an 11 gallon tank in the US.
Stuts is refering to imperial gallons as opposed to US gallons. 42L is equal to 9.2impGallons and also 11.1 US Gallons. Rest assured that Canadian tanks are every bit as big as American ones!

Dang it can't everybody do things the same way? A gallon should be a gallon!! Who screwed that all up? Ahhh.. I bet us americans did.. we seem to have a knack for that..

Ya as far as I know it was you Americans just like you guys were suppose to go to KM but wanted to stay Miles for some reason

Hey everyone, new around here, recently got a 1.3 yaris. Just thought I'd say that I got approx 71 km out of the last bar, and still 1 ltr left in the tank when i filled it up, so i could have gotten approx another 20 or so km's, but i wouldn't want to push it much further...
the most i've ever filled up was 42.5L
and the tank was advertise with 42L capacity....
Same here, Yaris hatch RS, the last bar was flashing and for some reason I was able to put in 42.3L and I could still have put more.
I don't understand as I didn't go that long after the light began flashing and I'm sure there was about 3 or 4 L left so I should have been able to put 39 to 40 L in, not 42.3 L ? And it's not as if it had been empty as before stopping and putting gas the car was running very well.
