Question Yaris 2007-06 temperature display

Hi Everyone! I'm a brand new owner of a Yaris Hatchback 2007 since yesterday!

Question for you freaks! I saw there's a temperature display near the odometer ... mine is not activated... Is there a cheap trick to activate it? Or I must go to my dealer and give him 500$ to put a 30 cents chip in my car???

Hey Thank you all!

Looking foward to hear from you!

I dont beleive it should be on. It should come on when you start the vehicle and turn off when the engine is warm, then it shouldnt come back on unless your engine is running to hot/over heating .

What do you mean not "activated." I've never heard of a car where you have to "activate" the temp display..it should be working unless there's a blown fuse or some other electrical problem...as mentioned already usually a blue light comes on when you first start and then goes off when the engine is warm (that's if the car is equiped with idiot lights) unless you have an anolog set up but the hatch doesn't right? Sorry not to confuse you...bring it to the dealer and have them check it out...it should be under warranty (So don't let the stealership screw you!) and oh another thing make it a point to be there when they do check it out. Has this been happening since you got the car? Or not long after? I guess what I'm saying is when did you first notice it? Good luck and keep us posted!

If I remember right, on some versions in other countries the LCD fuel gage panel has an actual temperture reading displayed on it, probably for outside air... So since the probably use the same LCD, it's got the ability to display it, it's just not a feature available on ours. To get it to work it would depend on what controls the display.. if its the main ECU, and they use the same ECU for ones that do work, then all you would need is a way to connect the sensor. But I doubt it's that easy, or that the sensor and connectors would be easy to get..

I need to get a shop manual, maybe even one from the more supped up ones sold elseware.

I saw a sedan with a lether package even..

There is an alternative which may or may not suit you. In Canada, you can buy a rear view mirror which can show both the outside temperature (thermometer) and the direction to which the car is heading (compass). It is a dealer installed option and costs more than Cdn$300 .

It also automatically dims.

Funny how an OAT gauge isn't standard.
