locks clicking by themselves

we have a 95 honda minivan with automatic locks. the locks click periodically by themselves, not continously. the van is hasnt been driving in months (we drive the echo). but is there a simple solution to the lock problem? or would we just have to unhock the battery or something? we've had this lock problem for a few years now.

My suggestion is to take it to the dealer and have it looked at. I can't imagine why you haven't yet, as you've had the problem for several years now.

Beyond that I don't really know what I can tell you, and I'm not sure how much more there would be on the topic in an Echo and Yaris forum.

we avoid the honda dealership like the plague (always waaay too expensive). it doesnt seem like a serious problem with the locks clicking, just annoying is all.

Seems like there's something faulty mechanical locking mechenism...even if you don't like the dealer that might have to be your only choice...either way if you go to a garage they still have to order parts from the Honda dealer, but obviously its not a big deal if its been going on for awhile and if your not willing to shell out the money, but I understand it comes down to is it really worth the $$$$ on a car over ten years old. Good luck, sorry to hear about it.

Maybe try to search for a London car forum. The closest I can think of is the Toronto section of www.revscene.net/forums but I've never had to look. Someone there can probably suggest a good shop to have a look at it for a fair price, or if you're lucky, someone there will be mechanically inclined and willing to have a look for a beer or some such.

Sometimes a faulty door switch will cause this, a loose wire, bad connection. This causes the auto lock system to respond as if the door is open/closed/open, etc.

Replace the door lock switches, one of them is bad.
My work truck ( 94 ford F150 ) does this every now and then and I have replaced both switches. A year later it started doing it again and once again I had a bad door locl switch.
