This is my first time here. I'm Fred or yarisdude and I just purchased a 2007 Yaris liftback last Friday. This is only the 3rd one to be sold here where I live in Naples Florida. I was actually going to the local Toyota dealer to try out a Scion Xa but when I drove around the side of the building there it was, a silver Yaris liftback. I did end up driving the Xa first but when I drove the Yaris it was all over. 2 Hours later I drove it home for good. I love everything about this little car and have only one complaint. I can't believe Toyota didn't offer a tachometer as an option. Since it's an automatic I don't really need one but I like guages. Toyota has a habit of offering items a year or two after I purchase one of their vehicles (this is my 4th Toyota overall since 1980). Now here's something everyone might find amusing. My wife Yvonne just bought a 2006 Mini Cooper S with all the goodies. Of course it will run circles around the Yaris and yet she's not sure she made the right choice since she's more excited about my Yaris than her Mini. We both like little cars since we spend 95% of our time driving in city traffic. I tried to tell her that the Yaris was the cutest thing on the road but she didn't believe me until I bought one and parked it next to her Mini. Hers is still smaller but mine is more aerodynamic and that short hood helps to make it look about the same size. Time will tell which was lasts in our driveway longer! I will try to post some pictures of both cars in the near future. Bye for now!
Welcome!! Glad you like your car...as far as tach you can get an aftermarket one...if you haven't already found it there's www.yarisworld.com, check it out, it has tons of info for you. Silver is a nice color! Yeah at first I had reservations towards the new mini but now I like it, cause its a small car, but I love the Yaris too!! Keep us posted and again congrats!!

Before I knew the Yaris existed I was yearning after the MIni. Used of course (new w/options = not in my budget).
I still like them but you have to admit the back seats are purely cosmetic. I think the Mini is a great 2nd car, but for someone with only 1 vehicle it's not very practical. It may beat Yaris in fun factor tho'. Enjoy your Yaris!
I own a 2005 Cooper S and a 2006 Yaris hatch and to be totally honest, the Cooper S is far superior when it comes to driving pleasure, performance, handling, and almost everything else. The Yaris is much more practical because it has four doors and decent space for rear passengers, but that's about it.
I personally think the MINI Cooper S is a better looking car, but that depends personal taste. I don't think your wife made a bad choice, though. Drive the MINI a bit and you'll clearly see what I am talking about.
I drive my Yaris mostly during the week and the MINI on weekends, and in comparison, the MINI is a real treat. When you get to know both cars inside out, you realize just how good the MINI is. To be fair, you can't compare the two.

Welcome to the family yarisdude I know you will enjoy your new Yairs the one thing that pisses me off about the Yaris is they did not offer the five door hatch in the U.S. I know if they did it would be selling even more

some of what you have said maybe true Thunder but at least we smoke you (way better gas mileage) at the gas pumps

Can't argue with you about that Stuts
I get about 450km on 45L (10l/100) in the MCS and 630KM+ on 40L (6.3l/100) in the Yaris. Sometimes I get about 500KM from a tank in the MCS when I drive it a bit more conservatively.

I agree that you can't really compare the two. They target two different market segments. Of course, if your a fan of small cars you'll probably see the merits of each.
