Thank you all for your responses.
Mukioh, I find that it happens in 4th or 5th. Mostly after revving beyond 3000RPM. The most common scenario is that I will accelerate in 4th gear then change to 5th and the revs will just hang, and when I let the clutch out once I've selected 5th gear, it will jolt the car a bit because of the rev mismatch.
Emi323i, I have made sure that the pedal isn't being pushed down by the floor mat or anything else. I am even more certain of this since it only happens in 4th and 5th gear. If I rev to 4000RPM in 4th gear and push in my clutch, the revs will stay at exactly the same place. It never revs over or under the value that it was at when I pushed in my clutch. After coasting in neutral for a while the revs will eventually return to normal.
It doesnt seem like a dangerous problem (provided it doesnt get worse) but it's very annoying and I think that it's bad for the clutch since everything I change from 4th the 5th gear I have no choice but to use the clutch to bring the revs down to suit 5th gear.
I mentioned this to my dealer when it went in for its first service and they said that it was normal, but I can't see why Toyota would want to implement somthing like this since I have never once found it useful and only ever found it to be a irritation to say the least.
