2006 Yaris review

Here's a new review article on the 2006 Toyota Yaris, with lots of information on the model's features, design and performance. Also there's a video and a large photo gallery for people to enjoy.

"In the new Yaris design process, Toyota Chief Engineer Kousuke Shibahara focused on three main aspects to explain the concept behind the project. Primarily, the new vehicle had to remain faithful to the Yaris heritage: an advanced product, high levels of interior comfort and modularity, use of high-tech, spaciousness, safety and performance..."

It's strange that in Europe, the Yaris is winning all the comparison test while the Fit is mid pack. And here in N.A, the roles are totally reversed.

from the article:

"The MultiMode is an electrically-operated (robotized) manual transmission, adopting two electric motors and an electronically-operated clutch to attain either automatic or sequential gear changes. The new Yaris is Toyota’s first vehicle to have MultiMode transmission available across its entire range. The MultiMode operates in three distinct ways: ‘M’, which allows sequential gearshift; ‘E’ for automatic gear change; and ‘Es’ for quicker automatic gear change. The MultiMode transmissions on the new Yaris now have a sportier tuning that provides a quicker gear change."

Does it means that they have 3 types of gear shift modes for the car?? can we use it individually or is it just incorporated into the M mode.

I almost bought a yaris, but couldn't get over that center mounted speedo stuff, also couldn't understand why gas mileage was so similar to the corolla..... the 5 door looks nice, dunno bout the sedan though... would be fun to do a road trip comparison with a corolla and a yaris same speed 500 mile + cruise the whole way to get a real world comparison MPG..
