Arrow anyone know what the word "Yaris" means?

I have a Corolla GTS converted to a Trueno... Trueno=Thunder and Levin=Lightning... but I looked up Yaris and it says it's British slang for "Vagina" or it can also mean "Genital Herpes", now I'm sure toyota didn't mean to do that unless they are just sick... I found a Japanese word "Yari" which means spear but not "Yaris"...

I'm not trying to knock your cars seriously... I am interested in the coupe myself and was just looking stuff up on it just outta curiousity... I thought someone might know on here... I went to Toyota today and saw a gunmetal coupe with TRD rims on it for sale... it was FAT and much roomier than my AE92 Rolla...

Whatever it really means if it's not a madeup word by toyota, it is kinda funny what I found...

From articles I read they said according to Toyota the name Yaris is derived from the Greek god Charis and German word, oh dang it I forgot! But its made up to my knowledge by combining two names together if that makes sense...maybe some one will have a link. From what I read Toyota is notorious for making up names if you say. Hope that helps!!

The name Vitz came from German word witz, which means "wit," "witticism," or "gag" in English. The name Yaris combines the German expression "ja," which is similar in meaning to "yes," with Charis, a Greek goddess who symbolized beauty and elegance.[1] Coincidentally, the chief designer for the Yaris is Greek.

The word Yaris is also explained in this review:
http://en.autos.sympatico.msn.ca/Rev...umentid=635582
See the paragraph titled - It's So Cute!
I post the link only to help explain the word Yaris in order to answer the question which is the subject of this thread. As for the review itself, I have my personal reservations in respect of some of the comments therein.

This is pretty funny, I read through the posts in this thread and only after reading them did I realize it was the OP replying the entire time.

What about the ECHO? why would they name a car after "a reccurance of sound"? not like it was very loud in the first place! Anyway seriously, i think it was somewhere along the lines of a mythilogical something or other anyway. Anyone remeber what it was? nothin on wiki....

Hiz is the word for speed in Turkish, yaris means race or contest as in running for political office.the s needs a tail though. No offense towards your friend though, in fact in the case of sir names the meaning could be different.Im just talking about everyday conversation.
