Yaris 1.0L in snow / mountains

Hello,

First post please be gentle.

I searched and there was no clear answer.

I'm getting a new [new to me] toyota, and my question is, will a 1.0L [60 BHP] Yaris have enough power in a snowy mountainous region?

Or am I better looking at a 1.4L Corolla [85 BHP]?

I'm going to live in the French Alps, and will the Yaris struggle going up steep hills, or do I have nothing to worry about?

Any help apprecitaed.

Well I'm not sure If this helps, but I took my 1990 Toyota Truck to Big Bear (9000 feet. elevation I think) in 90 degree summer heat. Which drained my little 4 banger to the power of a lawn mower. I noticed a reasonable decrease in power, and acceleration. Especially with the air conditioning on, which you wont have to worry about.

However, I did not feel that power was such an issue. It still went forward and backwards without much trouble.

So get what you want in my opinion. I dont think engine size and power is going to matter. Unless you just have to haul ass, either car should do fine.

a small car with a turbocharger will be less affected by the elevation change

I've travelled fairly extensively in the mountains of BC and never had a problem with my '06 Yaris.
