center mounted display

Why are the gauges placed in the middle? It just doesn't seem right. Is it easy to drive like that?

so that the mold for both right and left hand drive echo's could easily be changed and it is also cheaper for toyota to do such.

what about driveability? Does it seem wierd to have to look over to your right just to see what speed your going at? I normally just look at my speedo from lower peripheral vision.

For some reason I thought that the center mount gauges were compensated by a headsup display on the windshield. Isn't that an option one can get? If not, it sure should be. Actually, all cars should have that if you ask me. And the infrared dealio that bmws have. Those are sweet.

its mounted in the center but it faces toward the driver so you dont have to really turn your head that much or try to hard to look.

I bought a used 2000 last week. It is easier to look a lil left( we drive right handed) then to look down behind the steering wheel. Also no glare on the windscreen at night.Love the high revving engine though not that attractive to look at
