Acetone added to gas

OK- I got my asbestos suit on, so fire away. But I'm really interested to hear what you guys think about usage of acetone in gas. After reading up a lot on it, I've been adding roughly 3 ounces of pure acetone to a tank every other fillup. Strictly SOP-I've noticed smoother idling, much better acceleration, but no clear evidence that I'm getting better mileage. I plan to get a gauge from AutoZone to find out just how much difference acetone makes mpg-wise. I know some of you are gonna say I'm melting the rubber and plastic in the fuel system, but guess what? There are no rubber or plastic parts in the fuel system. If you read this and decide to try it for yourself, please read up first and make sure that no acetone hits paint or tires when adding it-it'll strip paint off in a heartbeat.

Go look again...there are a couple of runs of plastic and rubber...such as any of the flexible unions. There's one between the main line and the engine, one from the tank to the pump/filter, and injectors have plastic and rubber components in particular the seals. Now 3oz is peanuts blended into fuel, so you likely will not suffer any noticable damage, but you still run the risk. I'd suggest you have more chance of slipping up and ruining your paint than getting any real benefit, but your testing will put that to the test. For me, a couple of dollars a year in savings don't add up to the price of painting the car should I have an accident.
