I switched to mobil1 5w30 after my 2nd oil change since I had very good results with it with an older car. Runs good. Almost tried amsoil, but heard that it thickens too much as it gets older. Curious about what kind of synthetic m/t oil I should use. I'm not sure if I trust "off brands" like Amsoil and Red Line. Is mobil1 good m/t oil since they make the best motor oil? Whate are your recommendations? (BTW - I hate large predatory corporations like Exxon Mobil, but there is no denying that the best is the best with Mobil 1 synthetic motor oil)
Redline MTL/MT-90 depending on the application. Supra owners have been using this stuff (me included) for 10+ years to clean up our crunchy syncro problems. It has been well documented in delaying the inevitable trans rebuild 5 years or so from when owners switch over as the syncro wear issues almost disappear and the crunches go away (I managed almost 8 years before symptoms returned, and had the trans rebuilt over the summer). Until I see something that has done better, I'll keep running it, especially in my now fresh rebuilt gearbox.
I use Amsoil in my Camry. I change it every 25,000 miles or 1 year, which ever come first (it's always been the 1 year). If you are still under factory warranty, you wouldn't want to do that, of course. I've got 151,000 miles on the Camry and still running beautifully. I just did my first oil change on my motorcycle and switched to Amsoil. The difference is definitely noticable.
Don't get me wrong. I've used Mobil 1 and liked it just fine, but from experience, feel that Amsoil is far superior to anything out there. Just my 2 cents.
I run Redline MTL in my 94 5.0 and used to run MT-90 in my 00 Taco which really smoothed the Taco's 1st to 2nd shift. I've been using Redline oils for yrs and had good results.

I use Amsoil. I think that they are one of the only reputable companies left. Could you possibly post where you heard that Amsoil thickens? I have never heard this. FYI, Mobil 1 is not 100% synthetic --- it is a "cracked" mineral molecule. Amsoil FULL SYNTHETIC, 0-20W, however, is 100% synthetic. "Off brands like Amsoil"? Again, Amsoil is not really an off brand. Just because you don't see it on the shelf of the Walmart, etc. doesn't mean it is not an excellent product.

True, BUT Mobile1 EP is 100% senthetic....if one goes Mobile1, go with the EP version of it....they guarentee protection for 15,000 miles!
