Exhaust Doughnut Flex Gasket Alternate - 2000 Echo 4door

Hi,

The flex gasket between the exhaust manifold and the rest of the exhaust system has rusted out on my 2000 echo. The dealer wants $56 CAD for a new one. I have seen similar OEM gaskets for other cars at $10-15 max. Has anyone found a match from another vehicle that will work? Would be a shame to get raped by the dealer. I'll keep looking too.

Thanks

$56 doesn't seem like much, if the dealership had to diagnose the problem.

I diagnosed the problem. Pretty obvious where the leak was. The price is for the small gasket only. It's a special gasket, but not that special.

Toyota's kit also includes the bolt's and springs, as the old ones will be useless once removed.

just bought the flex gasket kit (donut + springs) for 27$can at Carquest. installation seems simple. 56$ seems to me a bit too much for a ring of metal, 2 bolts and 2 springs.

I think I need the same part; let us know how the installation went, please.

How'd you make out? If you're still stuck soak the area with penetrating oil or some such (WD40 works but not so quickly). Let it work overnight and the get on it with vice grips. Buy all different shapes and sizes of vice grips as this won't be your last broken fastener, don't ask me how I know! If you can give it a swat on top like trying to drive it in that'll help too in loosening the corrosion link in the threads. .

ended up taking the exhaust manifold out without much pain actually.
once the manifold stray was take off (mine is useless because it rusted through), it was easy to reach the 2 lower bolts. the upper bolts were taken with an articulated ratchet. percussion was enough to free them from their treads.

then i drilled through the rusted bold and remade the threads. buffed slightly the exhaust to take off a bit of rust but too much so that i wouldn't seal properly. get a new gasket put everything together with anti-cease and it's ready for battle!

got to say, if you a friend-genius to show you how, it greatly helps
