I am about to buy my first import car after haveing a ford hatchback, suv and SHO for the past 15 years. But ford has left a bad taste in my mouth after the sho. So now its time for something different and Toyota has just aproved me for the 07 Yaris Aero. I am about 2 breaths away from ordering as I really love this little car after the road test.
But I do have a few questins before I do.
1. whats with the auto shifter beeing able to flip into 3rd so easy ? Are you supose to be able to drop to 3rd anytime and is it safe to do so ?
2. I here alot about Toyota reliability, but this model of car is brand new correct so how do we know how it will do in the long run. Or is it that toyota history speeks for itself.
The engine and drivetrain mechanical components have been used since the late 90's in various Toyota vahicles, including the Echo and the scion Xa and Xb. There have been some minor revisions to the ecu and fuel tuning over that time, but the same basic parts have always been there. As the echo's are fairly well known for mechanical reliability, I can't see any reason to doubt the Yaris on that front. Yaris owners may be better able to comment on the chassis specific stuff...

Thanks for any input,
dont worry about the shifter Dbeau just dont shift to 3rd when you are going 50/60km up the Yaris has been out for a decade now in other countries its more then proven
Thanks for the info. I am really excited about getting my first import and also my first brand new car. Just waiting for the ford dealership to give the final verdict to my warranty company for the dead SHO. Such a shame, the sho was such a attactive fun car to drive, and loved that v8.

Didn't the SHO have a high output V6? Which to my knowledge was developed by Yamaha?? Not trying to argue just wondering. Anyway congrats on the new Yaris, I wish I was in the market for one as I would like to have it but for me it doesn't make sense financially as I paid off my car last year and now I need to save money to move out!
Good luck, keep us posted and post pictures when you get the Yaris

My 97 SHO has a V8, 96-99 have the eight, 95 down is the six. And yes it is a Yamaha. Its really sad as the motor is an amazing piece but we just cant get a miss fire to stop.
I was told it will be about a month and a half to to months for my Yaris to get here. Which is fine as that will give me time to sell the SHO.
Get the SHO back next week, working or not. The shop tore the motor apart, looks like brand new in there and the cams are in good shape as I knew it was an issue so I had them check. Best bet is its an unknown fault in electrical somewhere. But after $1600 in electrical work allready the shop has given up. Warranty company wants it taken to a Ford dealership for the final verdict.
If it comes back working or not its gone. I'm defenitly going to enjoy the stress free money saving Yaris. Just have to get past the long wait for it to get here
The Pacific Ocean Blue I was told is hard to come buy.
